Prince Edward Island, Canada

Prince Edward Island is Canada’s smallest province, a tiny island on the east coast with a population of 141,000, though that number dramatically increases in the summer months. Don’t let Prince Edward Island’s size fool you – this little island has a huge variety of activities available. You can access the island by plane, ferry, or by car over then Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick.

PEI is most known for Anne of Green Gables, excellent golfing, and being the birthplace of Confederation.

For “Anne” fans, you can catch Anne of Green Gables the Musical at the Charlottetown Theatre throughout the summer, visit Green Gables in Cavendish, or spend the day with the beloved characters in Avonlea. No matter where you go on the island, you’ll find Anne memorabilia, shows, concerts and Anne-related fun for everyone.

The golfers among us will enjoy three of the best golf courses in North America. Some of the biggest names in golf have played at The Links at Crowbush Cove, Brudenell River and Dundarave. Those of you who have seen the Golf Channel’s “Big Break” will recognize Mill River Golf Course as the site of that TV series. There are 30 more golf courses on the island, so you shouldn’t have trouble booking a tee time.

Being an island, there is no lack of beaches. Whether you want to enjoy the sun at Basin Head, dig for clams at Pinette Beach, or play in the sand on Cavendish beach, the sand, sun and clear water are sure to please. There are also a variet of campgrounds with beaches too – Cabot and Red Point are a couple of very nice ones. The fabulous beaches even rival that of a Florida beach vacation.

With its red mud, green hills, and sunny beaches, PEI is a wonderful place to take a vacation. You’ll find the people here incredibly friendly. There is so much going on on this island that you’ll want to visit all summer to enjoy it all.
